Composite Decks with Hog-Wire Railing

Composite decking with wood-framed hog-wire railings on two different homes, one in Parker and one in Elizabeth, including a full set of new deck stairs.

Both homeowners wanted the same two things: a deck they wouldn’t have to re-stain every couple of years, and a railing that didn’t block the view. Trex composite decking took care of the first. It won’t splinter, warp or fade the way pressure-treated pine does, and it cleans up with a hose. The Parker deck went with a darker board and the Elizabeth deck a lighter one, but the railing detail is the same on both: wood frames filled with hog-wire panels, a clean, modern farmhouse look that keeps the sightlines open to the yard.

One of the two decks also got a complete new stair run, framed, stringered and finished to match the deck surface, with the same hog-wire railing carried down the steps. Both jobs were built to code with proper ledger attachment, flashing and footings, so they passed inspection and will hold up for decades.
